Chapter 5 - THE HIDDEN FILE

Dominic's security team searched every recent medical record connected to Lily.
Then they found something strange.
A second patient file existed under her name.
Different address.
Different emergency contact.
Same birth date.
Same medical condition.
I stared at the screen.
“That isn't her.”
“No.”
The file had been created four years earlier.
Before I had ever heard of the specialist treating Lily.
Dominic looked at his investigator.
“Who created it?”
“A private clinic connected to a pharmaceutical company.”
My stomach tightened.
“What pharmaceutical company?”
He named it.
I recognized the name immediately.
They had been involved in experimental spinal treatments.
Dominic studied me.
“Did anyone ever approach you about clinical trials?”
“Yes.”
I hesitated.
“Three years ago.”
“Who?”
“A doctor.”
“What happened?”
“I refused.”
“Why?”
“He wanted Lily removed from the hospital system temporarily.”
I looked toward my daughter.
The room suddenly felt too small.
Dominic understood first.
“They weren't treating her.”
“They were studying her.”
My hands began shaking.
“They told me the treatment could make her walk.”
Dominic's expression hardened.
“Someone may have wanted access to her because her condition is unusually rare.”
I stared at him.
“So my daughter became valuable.”
May you like
He nodded.
“And someone is willing to do whatever it takes to get her.”
