Chapter 15 - THE SECOND ENVELOPE

Dominic arrived within minutes.

He examined the envelope without touching it directly.

“Photographs.”

He opened it carefully.

Inside were pictures of Lily.

At the hospital.

At therapy.

Outside our apartment.

Even asleep beside the window.

I felt sick.

“She was photographed inside our home.”

Dominic's expression became dangerous.

“This ends tonight.”

I looked at him.

“What are you going to do?”

“Find him.”

“No.”

He stared at me.

“You can't turn this into a war.”

“It already is one.”

“She's my daughter.”

“And that's why I'm going to protect her.”

I stepped closer.

“You don't get to decide what happens next.”

He was silent.

Then he nodded.

“You're right.”

I wasn't expecting that.

He handed me the photographs.

“Tell me what you want.”

I looked at them.

Then at Lily.

“I want the truth.”

Dominic nodded.

“Then we'll get it.”

That night, his investigators traced the photographs to a private surveillance company.

The client information had been erased.

But one payment remained.

The money came from a trust established fifteen years earlier.

The trustee's name stopped me cold.

My husband's name.

I couldn't breathe.

Dominic looked at me.

“Your husband may have been preparing for this long before Lily was born.”
