Chapter 12 - THE FIRST WARNING
The investigation continued behind the scenes.
The pharmaceutical company denied everything.
Their attorneys claimed Lily had been selected for a legitimate research program.
Then an anonymous email arrived.
DROP THE CASE.
I showed Dominic.
He read it once.
“Don't answer.”
“I wasn't planning to.”
Another message appeared.
WE KNOW WHERE SHE GOES TO THERAPY.
My blood went cold.
Dominic immediately called security.
“Move the location.”
“Our people can handle it.”
“No.”
His voice hardened.
“Move her.”
That evening, we changed everything.
New therapy center.
New transportation.
Different schedules.
Lily noticed.
“Why are we doing this?”
I looked at Dominic.
He answered.
“Because some people don't understand boundaries.”
Lily frowned.
“Are they bad?”
He crouched beside her.
“Some people make bad choices.”
“Are you scared?”
Dominic thought for a moment.
“Yes.”
Lily seemed surprised.
“You are?”
“Of losing someone important.”
She looked at me.
Then smiled.
“I think Mommy is scared too.”
I took her hand.
“Yes.”
