Chapter 14 - THE OLD FACTORY
Dominic's investigators tracked Victor to an abandoned factory in Queens.
The police surrounded the building.
I stayed with Lily at home.
Dominic went inside.
Two hours passed.
Then my phone rang.
It was him.
“We found something.”
“What?”
“Your husband's research files.”
I sat down.
“Why were they there?”
“I don't know yet.”
“Is Victor there?”
“No.”
“Then who moved the files?”
Dominic was silent.
“What?”
“Your husband wasn't the only person investigating the company.”
I frowned.
“What does that mean?”
“He had an accomplice.”
“Who?”
“We're still identifying him.”
Then Lily called from the hallway.
“Mommy!”
I turned.
She was holding a small envelope.
“This was under my wheelchair.”
My blood ran cold.
I took it.
There was no name.
Only one sentence.
YOUR FATHER WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO KNEW.
I looked at Lily.
“Where did you find this?”
“Near the wheel.”
Someone had been inside our home.
