Chapter 28 - THE LAST CASE

Three years later, the final investigation ended.

The company executives received sentences.

The research was transferred to independent medical centers.

Lily's treatment records were protected permanently.

No one could access them without our consent.

The prosecutor called me afterward.

“We couldn't have built this case without your husband's files.”

I thought about him.

About the secrets.

About the letter.

I had spent years angry that he had hidden things from me.

Now I understood why he had been afraid.

He had known dangerous people were watching.

He had failed in some ways.

But he had fought.

The case finally ended with one final document.

A settlement fund for families affected by the illegal research.

Lily received compensation.

She didn't care.

“What are you going to do with it?” she asked.

I looked at her.

“You decide.”

She thought carefully.

Then smiled.

“I want to help other kids.”

Dominic nodded.

“That sounds like you.”

May you like

She smiled.

“I know.”
