We searched every remaining document connected to my husband.
Then Dominic found the missing piece.
A handwritten journal.
My husband had documented everything.
The pharmaceutical company.
The research program.
The executives.
And one name repeated over and over.
Victor.
But there was more.
My husband believed Victor had infiltrated the company years earlier.
He was never officially employed there.
He operated through shell companies.
He sold medical information to private buyers.
Lily had been identified as a valuable patient before she was born.
I covered my mouth.
“How did my husband know?”
Dominic pointed to one line.
Because Victor told me himself.

Dominic closed the journal.
“So this isn't about Lily alone.”
“What is it about?”
“Revenge.”
I looked at my daughter.
