Chapter 18 - VICTOR

Dominic finally found Victor.

They met in an empty warehouse.

I wasn't supposed to be there.

But I went anyway.

Victor stood beneath a single overhead light.

He looked older than the photographs.

There was a scar near his jaw.

Rachel had been right.

Dominic stepped forward.

“You've been following my family.”

Victor smiled.

“Your family?”

He looked at me.

Then Lily.

“She belongs to the project.”

I felt rage surge through me.

“She belongs to herself.”

Victor laughed.

“You don't understand the value of her condition.”

Dominic moved closer.

“You're done.”

Victor shook his head.

“Your friend James Carter didn't understand either.”

My heart stopped.

“You knew my husband.”

“Yes.”

“You killed him?”

Victor smiled.

“I warned him.”

Dominic's expression changed.

Victor continued.

“He refused to cooperate.”

“So you threatened us?”

“He knew what would happen.”

I stepped forward.

“What did my husband hide?”

Victor's smile disappeared.

“The original research.”

Dominic went still.

“Where?”

Victor looked at Lily.

“Inside the one place your husband thought nobody would search.”

Lily gripped my hand.

Victor smiled again.

“Your daughter's medical records aren't the real secret.”

“Then what is?”

“The treatment.”
