Chapter 2 - THE CAR THAT FOLLOWED US

The dark sedan followed us for nine blocks.
Dominic never accelerated recklessly. He simply changed lanes, turned twice, and watched the mirror.
It stayed behind us.
Lily noticed.
“Mommy, that car was there before.”
My stomach tightened.
“How do you know?”
“I saw it outside the hospital.”
Dominic's hands tightened around the wheel.
“How many times?”
“Three.”
He looked at me.
“Three?”
I nodded.
A call came through his phone.
His security chief spoke quickly.
“Confirmed. Same plate. Registered to a shell company.”
“Find the owner.”
“We're working on it.”
Dominic ended the call.
I stared at him.
“You have people who can do that?”
“Yes.”
“Who exactly are you?”
He glanced at me.
“You already know.”
“No. I know the name Moretti. I don't know you.”
His jaw tightened.
“That may be better.”
The sedan suddenly accelerated.
Dominic reacted instantly.
He turned into a parking garage, drove down two levels, and stopped.
The sedan followed.
My pulse exploded.
Lily gripped my hand.
Dominic looked at me.
“Stay inside.”
He stepped out.
Three men emerged from the other vehicle.
And I understood why his voice had changed on the street.
