Chapter 13 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW
The missing hospital employee was finally found.
Her name was Rachel Moore.
She agreed to testify.
We met her in a secure office.
She looked exhausted.
“I never wanted to hurt Lily.”
“Then why did you access her records?” I asked.
Rachel began crying.
“They threatened my son.”
Dominic remained silent.
Rachel continued.
“They said if I didn't cooperate, they would make him disappear.”
My stomach tightened.
“Who?”
She named two executives.
Then she said something unexpected.
“There was another person.”
“Who?”
“Someone outside the company.”
She looked directly at Dominic.
“A man named Victor.”
Dominic's face changed.
“Victor who?”
“I don't know his last name.”
“Describe him.”
Rachel hesitated.
“Tall. Dark hair. Scar near his jaw.”
Dominic went completely still.
I noticed.
“You know him?”
He nodded slowly.
“Yes.”
“Who is he?”
Dominic looked toward Lily's room.
“Someone I haven't seen in fifteen years.”
Rachel swallowed.
“He told me the child mattered because her father had hidden something.”
My stomach turned.
“What hidden thing?”
Rachel shook her head.
“I don't know.”
