Chapter 6 - THE RETURN OF MATTEO
Matteo stood beneath the rain.
White hair.
Black coat.
An expression that showed no fear.
He looked directly into the estate camera.
Then he smiled.
Lorenzo stared at the screen.
“My father warned me about him.”
“What did he do?”
“Everything.”
The cameras suddenly went black.
Then a message appeared.
OPEN THE GATES.
OR THE CHILD DIES.
Lena began trembling.
I hugged her.
Lorenzo took the microphone.
“You want me?”
Matteo's voice came through the speakers.
“I want what belongs to me.”
“This company isn't yours.”
“It will be.”
Lorenzo's eyes hardened.
“You're not taking my daughter.”
Matteo laughed.
“She isn't your daughter.”
The room went silent.
I looked at Lorenzo.
“What does that mean?”
Matteo continued.
“Ask your fiancée who Lily's mother really was.”
Lorenzo turned toward Valentina.
Valentina covered her mouth.
Then Matteo said:
“She isn't just the maid's daughter.”
My heart stopped.
“What are you talking about?”
The speakers went silent.
Valentina looked at me.

“I know who her father is.”
