Chapter 2 - THE PHONE CALL

The voice on Valentina's phone disappeared.

For three seconds, nobody moved.

Then Lorenzo took the phone from her hand.

“Who was that?”

Valentina stared at him.

“I don't know.”

He looked at the call history.

The number was blocked.

Lorenzo handed the phone to security.

“Trace it.”

Then he turned to me.

“Sophia, take Lena upstairs.”

I grabbed my daughter's hand.

We had taken only three steps when every light in the mansion went out.

Lena screamed.

Security shouted.

A window shattered somewhere below.

Lorenzo pulled us behind a stone column.

“Stay down.”

Gunfire erupted outside.

Someone was attacking the estate.

I held Lena against my chest.

She buried her face against me.

Then a guard rushed inside.

“Sir! The east gate has been breached!”

Lorenzo's expression became terrifyingly calm.

“How many?”

“Six vehicles.”

He looked toward the chapel.

Then at Valentina.

“This was planned.”

Valentina began crying.

“I didn't know.”

Lorenzo stared at her.

“You knew enough.”
