Chapter 3 - THE ESCAPE

Lorenzo moved us through a hidden corridor beneath the library.
I had worked in the mansion for almost a year and never knew it existed.
Lena held my hand.
“Mommy, where are we going?”
“Somewhere safe.”
Lorenzo walked ahead with two guards.
The sound of gunfire echoed through the walls.
Then an explosion shook the corridor.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
Lena screamed.
Lorenzo turned immediately.
“Keep moving.”
We reached a steel door.
Behind it was an underground security room.
Cameras covered every wall.
Lorenzo locked the door.
Then he looked at me.
“How did you know about the key?”
“I found it.”
“Where?”
“East corridor.”
“Why did you keep it?”
“I heard Valentina mention the chapel.”
He nodded.
Then every monitor changed.
A live image appeared.
The estate courtyard.
Five armed men were moving through the rain.
One turned toward the camera.
He held a photograph.
Lena's photograph.
My blood ran cold.
Lorenzo saw it.
His voice dropped.
“They're here for her.”
I pulled Lena closer.
“No.”
May you like
Lorenzo looked at me.
“They won't get her.”
