There were no reporters.
No business associates.
No armed men standing around us.
Just family.
Lena wore a pale pink dress.
She carried the rings.
When she reached us, she whispered:
“Don't cry.”
I laughed through my tears.
Lorenzo looked at me.
“You look beautiful.”
“You're nervous.”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
He smiled.
During the vows, he held my hands tightly.
“I once believed a family was something a man had to protect with power.”
He looked at Lena.
“I was wrong.”
Then he looked at me.
“A family is something you protect with love.”
I cried.
We exchanged rings.
When we kissed, Lena clapped loudly.
Then shouted:
“Finally!”
Everyone laughed.
