Chapter 15 - THE SAFE HOUSE

Lorenzo moved us to a quiet house outside the city.
No mansion.
No ballroom.
No endless security staff.
Just a small lake house surrounded by trees.
Lena loved it immediately.
“There are frogs!”
She ran outside.
I laughed.
Lorenzo stood beside me.
“She hasn't looked this happy in months.”
“She was never supposed to know any of this.”
“Neither was I.”
He looked at me.
“You're not just protecting her anymore.”
“What do you mean?”
“I want you to stay.”
I stared at him.
“As what?”
He hesitated.
“Family.”
My heart skipped.
“I work for you.”
“No.”
He shook his head.
“You saved my daughter.”
He looked toward the garden.
“You changed my life.”
I didn't know what to say.
Then Lena came running back.
“Daddy!”
Lorenzo caught her.
She looked between us.
“Are we staying here?”
“Yes.”
“All of us?”
Lorenzo glanced at me.
“All of us.”
May you like
Lena smiled.
That tiny smile made the decision for me.
