Chapter 5 - THE WOMAN WHO BETRAYED HIM
Valentina was brought into the security room.
Lorenzo placed the recordings on the screen.
“You're finished.”
She stared at him.
“You don't understand.”
“Explain.”
“I was forced.”
“By whom?”
She hesitated.
“My father.”
Lorenzo's eyes narrowed.
“Your father is dead.”
Valentina shook her head.
“No.”
Silence.
“He has been alive for years.”
I felt a chill.
“Who is he?”
Valentina looked toward the ceiling.
“Matteo Ricci.”
Lorenzo went completely still.
His former business rival.
The man supposedly killed fifteen years earlier.
Valentina continued.
“He wanted your company.”
“And you?”
“I wanted protection.”
“You threatened my daughter.”
Tears filled her eyes.
“I didn't want her hurt.”
“You locked her mother in a room and threatened her child.”
Valentina looked at me.
“I was afraid.”
Lorenzo stepped closer.
“You should have been afraid of what you were becoming.”
He turned to security.
“Take her.”
Valentina shouted:
“Lorenzo!”
He didn't stop.
Then the room went silent.
