Chapter 6 - THE SEARCH

Marcus called the police and security simultaneously.
Olivia gave them every detail she remembered.
A man.
Dark coat.
Gray car.
No visible license plate.
Marcus's thoughts raced.
“Did he say anything?”
Olivia's lips trembled.
“He said the CEO should have stayed out of it.”
Marcus froze.
The message was clear.
Someone knew exactly who he was.
And they were willing to use Maya to stop him.
His security chief arrived within minutes.
“We found the vehicle.”
“Where?”
“Two miles away.”
Marcus ran outside.
The gray car was abandoned beneath an overpass.
The back seat was empty.
Except for Maya's cardigan.
Marcus picked it up.
His hands tightened around the fabric.
“She was here.”
A detective examined the ground.
“We have footprints.”
They followed them toward an abandoned warehouse.
Marcus wanted to rush inside.
The detective stopped him.
“You stay behind us.”
Marcus stared at the building.
Every second felt unbearable.
Then his phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
“Maya?”
A man's voice laughed quietly.
“You really do care about the kid.”
Marcus's blood ran cold.
“Where is she?”
“Bring the insurance file.”
“I don't have it.”
“You'll find it.”
“And if I don't?”
“Then she disappears.”
The call ended.
Marcus stared at the screen.
The detective asked, “Who was it?”
May you like
Marcus looked toward the warehouse.
“Someone who knows my company better than I do.”
