Chapter 18 - THE ATTACK
That night, Marcus received a message.
“Stop investigating.”
He ignored it.
Twenty minutes later, his car was forced off the road.
The crash sent glass across the passenger seat.
Marcus managed to crawl out.
His phone was missing.
The attacker was gone.
Police arrived minutes later.
Marcus wasn't seriously injured.
But inside the wrecked car, investigators found something.
A photograph.
Maya leaving the hospital.
On the back, one sentence:
“Next time, she won't be lucky.”
Marcus stared at it.
His anger was immediate.
He drove straight to the hotel where Olivia and Maya were staying.
Maya ran toward him.
“Mr. Marcus!”
He hugged her tightly.
Olivia saw his bruised face.
“What happened?”
“Car accident.”
She knew he was lying.
“You're in danger because of us.”
Marcus shook his head.
“No.”
He looked toward Maya.
“They're in danger because of what they did.”
His voice hardened.
“And I'm going to make sure they pay.”
