Chapter 24 - ROSEMARY'S NEWS

Rosemary Finch called Marcus one morning.
“I have something to tell you.”
“What happened?”
“I’m retiring.”
Marcus was surprised.
“From the bakery?”
“Forty years is enough.”
Maya was devastated when she heard.
“No!”
Rosemary laughed.
“You'll survive.”
“But who will make the vanilla cake?”
“You can learn.”
Maya looked at Marcus.
“Dad?”
He immediately shook his head.
“I don't bake.”
Rosemary smiled.
“Then you'd better learn quickly.”
So that weekend, Marcus and Maya stood in Rosemary's kitchen covered in flour.
Marcus ruined the first cake.
Then the second.
Maya laughed so hard she could barely breathe.
“This is terrible!”
Marcus looked at the collapsed cake.
“I run a company.”
“And somehow you lost a battle against eggs.”
Rosemary watched them from the doorway.
She smiled.
