Chapter 26 - THE SCHOLARSHIP
When Maya turned ten, Marcus established the Olivia Carter Scholarship.
It helped children whose parents were battling serious illness.
At the first ceremony, Maya stood beside him.
She was nervous.
Marcus whispered, “You don't have to speak.”
“I want to.”
She stepped toward the microphone.
“My mom got sick, and we almost lost everything.”
The room became silent.
“But someone noticed.”
She looked at Marcus.
“He didn't save us because we were special.”
Marcus's eyes filled with tears.
“He saved us because we needed help.”
Maya turned back to the audience.
“So when you see someone struggling, don't wait for them to become invisible.”
The crowd applauded.
Marcus watched his daughter walk back toward him.
He realized she had become exactly what he hoped she would become.
