Chapter 9 - THE FINAL SECRET

The birth certificate was legitimate.

But the name beside mine wasn't Vivien's.

It was her mother's.

Isabella Rossi.

She had been listed as my father's former wife.

I stared at the page.

“My father married your mother?”

“Yes.”

“When?”

“Before your mother.”

I couldn't breathe.

Vivien wiped her tears.

“My mother was pregnant when he left her.”

I looked at her.

“Then what does that make us?”

“Nothing.”

She shook her head.

“We aren't related.”

“Then why hide this?”

“Because my mother believed your father stole everything from her.”

“The trust?”

“Yes.”

“And you wanted revenge.”

She nodded.

“But Dante changed the plan.”

I froze.

“What did Dante do?”

“He wanted the trust for himself.”

“So you worked together.”

“At first.”

“At first?”

She looked away.

“I realized too late that he intended to kill you after the wedding.”

The room went silent.

I stared at her.

“Kill me?”

She nodded.

“He planned to make it look like an accident.”

I suddenly understood the phone call.

The secret meetings.

The safe.

The deadline.

Vivien hadn't been innocent.

But she wasn't the only monster in the room.

I took out my phone.

Security was already listening.

“Tell me everything,” I said.

Vivien began crying.

And for the first time, she did.

Names.

Accounts.

Locations.

Plans.

Everything.

Then the study door opened.

Dante stood there.

May you like

His expression was terrifyingly calm.

“You really should have listened to me, Vincent.”
