Chapter 15 - THE ORIGINAL POLICE REPORT

The original police report was hidden in a private archive.
My investigator found it that night.
The official report said Adrian had lost control of the car.
The original said something else.
Brake failure.
Deliberate tampering.
Someone had cut the brake line.
I stared at the page.
“Who owned the car?”
“My father.”
“And who had access?”
The investigator pointed to the second page.
“Dante.”
I couldn't breathe.
Dante had been eleven.
Too young to carry out the crime.
But someone had.
And the person who helped him had never been named.
Then I found a handwritten note attached to the report.
“Child witnessed argument before departure.”
“Which child?”
The investigator looked at me.
“You.”
I stared at him.
“I was five.”
“You witnessed something.”
I closed my eyes.
I had almost no memory of that year.
Only fragments.
A slammed door.
My father's voice.
A woman crying.
Dante standing at the staircase.
And a little boy saying my name.
Adrian.
I suddenly remembered.
He had given me a toy soldier.
He told me to hide.
Then he walked outside.
I never saw him again.
I opened my eyes.
“There was another person.”
“Who?”
May you like
I whispered the name.
“Dante.”
