Chapter 20 - THE TRUTH WITHOUT REVENGE

Dante finally admitted it.

He had known Marcus was interfering with Sofia's treatment.

He hadn't stopped him.

He had been afraid.

Afraid Marcus would expose the family's secrets.

Afraid our father would destroy him.

Afraid that if he spoke, he would lose everything.

But he had made one decision I could never forgive.

He stayed silent.

I sat across from him in prison.

“Did you know Sofia would die?”

He looked at the table.

“I knew something was wrong.”

“And you did nothing.”

“No.”

His voice broke.

“I was a coward.”

I closed my eyes.

For years, I had wanted someone to blame.

Now I finally had names.

Marcus.

My father.

Dante.

A chain of fear stretching across decades.

But when I looked at my brother, I didn't feel victory.

I felt exhaustion.

“What happened to Adrian?” I asked.

Dante whispered,

“Marcus killed him.”

“And my father?”

“He covered it up.”

“And Sofia?”

Dante began crying.

“Marcus interfered with her treatment.”

Silence.

I stood.

Then I looked at my brother.

“I will never forgive what you did.”

He nodded.

“But I won't become you.”

I walked away.

Outside the prison, Clara waited with Emma.

Emma ran toward me.

I caught her.

“Did you find the truth?”

I looked down at her.

“Yes.”

“Is it bad?”

“Yes.”

She hugged me tighter.

“Then come home.”

I closed my eyes.

Home.

That word meant something different now.

It wasn't a mansion.

It wasn't a family name.

It wasn't money.

It was the people who waited for you when the truth hurt.

I kissed the top of Emma's head.

“Yes.”

We drove home together.

And for the first time, I stopped chasing revenge.

I had spent years believing justice meant making the people who hurt me feel the same pain.

Now I understood something different.

Justice meant ending the chain.

And when I walked through Ravenwood's front doors that night, I made the first decision that truly belonged to me.

I would build a life that had nothing to do with the secrets of the people who came before me.

A life where children were safe.

Where frightened women were believed.

May you like

Where money never bought silence.

And where love never required a lie.
