Chapter 25 - THE FOUNDATION HOUSE

I converted an unused wing of Ravenwood into a family support center.

Parents could stay there during medical treatment.

Children could play.

Mothers could sleep without worrying about rent.

No one had to beg for help.

The first family arrived in spring.

A mother and her six-year-old son.

He had cancer.

She apologized before entering.

“I'm sorry we're imposing.”

I smiled.

“You aren't.”

She looked confused.

“This house exists for you.”

Her eyes filled.

The boy stared at Emma's rabbit.

“Can I see?”

Emma handed it to him.

“His name is Bunny.”

The boy smiled.

For the first time that morning, his mother laughed.

I watched them disappear into the children's room.

Clara stood beside me.

“You built something beautiful.”

I shook my head.

“They did.”

She looked at me.

“Who?”

“The people who needed somewhere safe.”

That evening, I stood alone in the hallway.

Years ago, Ravenwood had been a place where people whispered.

Now children laughed in the same corridors.

I realized then that the greatest revenge against the people who had abused power wasn't destroying them.

It was building something they could never control.

A place where kindness was stronger than fear.
