Chapter 8 - THE WEDDING PLAN

I didn't cancel the wedding.

That was what surprised everyone.

Instead, I moved it forward.

Two weeks.

Vivien looked delighted.

“You're serious?”

“Yes.”

She kissed me.

“I knew you trusted me.”

I smiled against her cheek.

“I do.”

The lie tasted bitter.

Behind her, Clara stood frozen.

I had told her everything.

Security had been doubled.

Every account was protected.

Every room was monitored.

The FBI had been quietly contacted through my attorney.

The wedding would become a trap.

Dante arrived three days later.

He embraced me.

“Brother.”

I smiled.

“Dante.”

Vivien watched us.

Neither of them knew how much I already knew.

That evening, I found her inside the study again.

She was holding the blue folder.

“You shouldn't be here.”

She turned.

Then smiled.

“Neither should you.”

I reached for the folder.

She stepped backward.

“You don't understand.”

“Then explain.”

She looked at me.

“Your father destroyed my family.”

“By protecting mine?”

Her eyes filled with anger.

“He lied to everyone.”

“About what?”

She opened the folder.

Inside was one final document.

A birth certificate.

My name was on it.

I stared.

Then looked at Vivien.

“What is this?”

She whispered,

May you like

“You and I were never strangers.”

My blood ran cold.
