Chapter 19 - SOFIA'S FILE

The hospital reopened Sofia's medical records under a court order.

There were inconsistencies.

Medication times didn't match.

One signature had been forged.

And a nurse had disappeared from the hospital staff shortly before Sofia died.

My attorney looked at me.

“You don't have to do this.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because I need to know.”

The nurse was eventually found living under another name.

Her story confirmed what I feared.

Someone had altered Sofia's treatment records.

But she couldn't identify the person.

“He never came in himself,” she said.

“Who never came in?”

“The man giving the orders.”

I showed her photographs.

She stopped at Marcus.

“That was him.”

I closed my eyes.

Marcus.

The same man connected to Adrian.

The same man who had monitored my family.

The same man who had watched the Vermont house.

Everything converged.

But the nurse added one final detail.

“Another person helped him.”

“Who?”

She shook her head.

“I never saw his face.”

“Anything else?”

“He had a scar on his neck.”

I froze.

Emma's description of the mysterious man from the garage came back to me.

Tall.

Black hair.

Scar on the neck.

Dante.

I walked out of the room in silence.

The truth was closer than ever.
