Chapter 2 - THE FIRST TRAP

At eight that evening, Vivien sat beside me at the dinner table as if nothing had happened.

She wore the emerald earrings I had given her for our anniversary. Her smile was warm. Her hand rested lightly over mine.

“You seem distracted.”

“I had a long day.”

She smiled.

“Was it business?”

“Always.”

She laughed softly.

Across the table, Clara served wine with shaking hands.

Vivien noticed.

“You're spilling.”

Clara immediately lowered her head.

“I'm sorry.”

I watched Vivien carefully.

A small smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.

That was enough.

After dinner, I pretended to leave for my study.

Instead, I hid in the library.

Ten minutes later, I heard footsteps.

Vivien entered my study.

She closed the door.

Then she called someone.

“I think he suspects something.”

A man's voice answered through the phone.

I couldn't hear the words.

Vivien whispered, “No. Clara hasn't told him.”

I clenched my fists.

Then she said something that froze me.

“The wedding must happen before he sees the trust documents.”

Trust documents?

What trust?

I quietly recorded everything.

Then footsteps approached the library.

Emma.

She stood in the doorway holding her rabbit.

She whispered, “Mr. Vincent?”

I crouched.

“What?”

She looked frightened.

“Aunt Vivien said Mommy has to take you somewhere tomorrow.”

“Where?”

May you like

Emma shook her head.

“She said you won't come back.”
