Victoria agreed to a formal interview in exchange for prosecutors considering her cooperation.
Her confession lasted four hours.
Richard’s original plan had begun nine years earlier.
He wanted control of the Reed trust.
But Mark and Daniel stood ahead of him.
Charles designed the legal strategy.
Keller handled the money.
Richard handled pressure.
Victoria became the inside access point.
Daniel discovered them first.
His death removed one obstacle.
Noah became the next legal problem.
If Noah lost beneficiary status, Richard’s claim strengthened.
Then came phase two.
Mark would suffer what looked like a medical emergency.
A stroke.
An overdose.
A sudden collapse caused by medication secretly introduced into his food.
While Mark was hospitalized and legally incapacitated, emergency authority over several family entities could be challenged.
Richard intended to seize control before Mark recovered.
If Mark did not recover, even better.
Sarah listened from the other side of the interview room glass.
She remembered Victoria standing beside Noah’s crib with the amber bottle.
That bottle had not been intended only for the baby.
Victoria admitted the substance was part of a larger supply.
Some had been placed in Mark’s private liquor cabinet.
Police searched the estate.
They found it.
Mark had almost poured himself a drink from that bottle two nights earlier.
He had changed his mind because Noah began crying upstairs.
The child they wanted to remove had unknowingly saved him.
Mark sat silently after hearing that.
Sarah walked in.
“Say something.”
He looked at her.
“I keep thinking about Daniel.”
Sarah sat beside him.
“I should have known.”
“No.”
“He tried to warn me.”
“You did not have the letter.”
“I should have seen Victoria.”
“She spent years learning how not to be seen.”
Mark looked toward the interview room.
“Like you?”
Sarah smiled faintly.
“Different reason.”
Mark understood.
Sarah became invisible because service work trained people not to notice her.
Victoria became invisible because deception required it.
One used invisibility to protect.
The other used it to harm.
Detective Ortiz entered.
“We found Samuel Price.”
Mark stood.
“Alive?”
“Yes.”
“Where?”
“Costa Rica.”
“Will he cooperate?”
“He already is.”
Samuel confessed Charles paid him to damage Daniel’s brake line.
He claimed he believed the damage would cause a minor failure.
Charles instructed him to weaken it enough to fail later.
Samuel later learned Daniel had died.
He panicked.
Keller gave him cash and a ticket out of the country.
Samuel had kept something for protection.
A recording of Charles giving him instructions.
The case changed instantly.
They no longer had only circumstantial evidence.
They had conspiracy.
Payment records.
Confessions.
Audio.
Forensic evidence.
And Victoria.
Richard’s empire of lies was collapsing.
